Free Range Farm Gate Poultry
We offer Free Range Farm Gate Poultry. It’s probably a good thing that poultry and poultry products can only be sold from the farm gate in limited quantities. This means that due to regulations in Ontario, no farmer can get too big by having too many laying hens or meat birds without buying the right to large quantities with “quota”. With small operations like ours, consumers need to come to the farm to purchase chicken, eggs, and turkeys and while doing so can verify for themselves how the chickens or turkeys are being raised.

Because of many plays on many words ie, free range, free run, cage free, naturally raised, naturally produced, drug free, cruelty free, strictly grain fed, etc. etc. it becomes very confusing to what each “selling phrase” means. Basically we find that you are being told the good and not being told the bad which is basic marketing strategy.

We have as many as 14 rare breeds of laying hens running around our farm. They are let out to roam at about noon each day and left to pasture, forage and bathe pretty well anywhere they want. If we need an area “chicken free” we have to fence them out rather than fencing the birds into one area.

Our customers rely on the health of our chickens, the taste and goodness of the meat as well as the eggs. Because of the rare and varied breeds of chickens on the farm, we have brown, blue, green, white, beige, speckled, and sometimes even purple eggs. We encourage our hens to hatch their own chicks and so far have 40 chicks naturally hatched and raised.
